Generative manufacturing processes utilise physical or chemical hardening and melting processes to create three-dimensional objects layer by layer from different materials. This process often results in microporous structures. By their very nature, they are usually not impermeable and are therefore susceptible to water absorption. They are also susceptible to yellowing, abrasion, UV radiation and other negative influences.

Conventional agents used in 3D printing, rapid prototyping or additive manufacturing only provide limited protection against such impairments. Or are not flexible enough for user-specific challenges.
